Scoring Rubrics

Overall Criteria

  • There is evidence of research/project development
  • A wide variety of resources were used (examples: interviews, primary resources)
  • All sources are properly cited in the film credits
  • Fair use copyright guidelines have been followed
  • The project is organized in a logical and interesting sequence that clearly conveys the purpose of the film
  • Quality images and multimedia elements are combined with a meaningful audio soundtrack to convey the intended message
  • The film does not exceed the time limit for its specific category (see below)

Category-Specific Criteria

  • PSA

    • The message clearly benefits the audience
    • The entry uses emotion to powerfully convey a serious issue
    • Length: 60 seconds or less (20 seconds or less for the Special Category PSA)
  • Personal Narrative

    • The entry uses a personal voice and artistic license to enhances the viewer’s understanding of the context of the story
    • Sequencing, audio/visual details and sensory language convey the significance of the events in the narrative
    • Length: 3 minutes or less
  • Documentary

    • The tone is consistent with the message delivered in the film
    • The quantity of material presented is sufficient to inform and draw conclusions without overloading the viewer
    • Length: 3 minutes or less
